News I iCET trip to Xiamen for biodiesel sustainable development case study

September 1-3, 2009 – iCET, in partnership with the China Academy of Sciences - Institute of Urban Environment and Beijing University of Sicence and Technology - School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, traveled to Xiamen to conduct research on lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions of biodiesel made from waste vegetable oils, and to test the LCA methodology that has been under development for the duration of this project. iCET visited some Xiamen-based biodiesel production companies and potential biodiesel purchasers, facilitated a discussion on the concept of low carbon fuel, explained to them the fuel lifecycle assessment of carbon intensity and energy intensity, and encouraged them continue to develop biodiesel in a sustainable fashion. Based on this trip, iCET produced a brief report of Lifecycle Greenhouse Gas Emission Assessment for Waste Oil Biodiesel using data from a real, commercial biodiesel fuel chain as case study (not yet published).
