News I iCET and partners launch Global Climate Registry Alliance at Rio+20 in Brazil

On June 18, 2012, The Climate Registry (TCR, USA), The Energy and Climate Registry (ECR, the Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation in China) and Brazilian GHG Protocol Program of GVces (Centre for Sustainability Studies from Getulio Vargas Foundation) organized one launch event for building a Global Climate Registry Alliance at Rio+20, Brazil.

The Global Climate Registry Alliance (GCRA) is a consortium of programs worldwide actively supporting efforts to measure and manage greenhouse gas emissions. Its mission is to improve human and institutional capacity to address climate change through the use of credible, transparent standards for carbon measurement and management. Three GHG Programs - TCR, ECR and GVces are working with over 500 organizations to measure, report, verify and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Reporting organizations include corporations, government agencies, universities and more, representing more than 30 sectors worldwide.

The event discussed the programs undertaken for organizational carbon footprint reporting and registries operating in Brazil, China and North America and their success to date. Speakers also shared new initiatives to align the registries and establish a Global Climate Registry Alliance. Topics includes: developing and implementing global standards for carbon footprint reporting and verification, tips for making registries region-specific, working with multinational corporations to manage their carbon footprint and outreach to key stakeholders. Speakers include Premier of Province of Manitoba, Canada Mr. Greg Selinger, Interim President of WRI Mr. Marish Bapna, Executive Director of TCR David Rosenheim, Founder and President of iCET Dr. Feng An, and Director of Getulio Vargas Foundation, Center for Sustainability Studies Mr. Mario Monzoni.
