News I iCET Releases an Analysis Report on the California's Carbon Cap-and-Trade Auction Mechanism

iCET Carbon Management team has been tracking California's carbon Cap-and-Trade scheme including its scheme design and operating conditions since 2011. Recently, the team has just released one of the report series on California carbon trading scheme, which is entitled “Analysis of the Auction Mechanism”. This report briefly introduces methods for allowance allocation of California's carbon Cap-and-Trade scheme, and the role of auction in the allocation of emission allowances. It also conducts detailed discussion on the auction mechanism, including auction management organizations, auction frequency and timing, quantity and source of the emission allowances, auction process, and the operating procedure of the electronic platform. A comprehensive analysis for the two previous successful auctions held in California is also included. iCET carbon team hopes the California experience of the mechanism design and operation could bring new inspirations for the pilot program in China. In the near future, iCET carbon team plans to publish other two reports on the carbon offsets projects and the role of electricity industry in the carbon trade system.
