News I iCET Attends Live Broadcast Roundtable Discussion on Fuel Consumption Labeling and Targets

On May 14, iCET Clean Transportation Program Officer, Ms. Kang Liping, was invited to a roundtable discussion on the issues of fuel consumption labeling and targets organized and broadcast live by Beijing’s Traffic Radio Automotive World. Mr. Zhang Zhaohu, editor-in-chief of Pinzhi Car Magazine and Nan Chen, Senior Journalist on Xinhua News Agency, also participated in the debate. Ms. Kang introduced the findings from iCET’s 2013 extensive label implementation assessment study, re-emphasizing the clear need for more transparent regulatory enforcement. The study included 114 4S shops from 16 cities and revealed that 93% of vehicle buyers do consider fuel consumption information, however in most cases doubt the credibility of the labeled fuel consumption information. Ms Kang also called for regulators to further endorse the work of media, NGOs and other third parties in their quest to improve and advance fuel economy in China.
