iCET Delivers Speech at "China Environment Forum" in Washington

On February 21, Dr. Feng An, Founder and Executive Director of The Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation (iCET), was invited by The Wilson Center to deliver speech at the "China Environment Forum" in Washington. The Wilson Center is US’s key policy forum and among the top 15 think tanks in the world. Through independent research and open dialogue, the Center provides practical recommendations and solutions to the U.S. Congress and Government on global issues.

China is engaged in a monumental top-down effort to promote the development of new-energy vehicles (NEVs) -- plug-in hybrids, pure-battery electrics, and fuel-cell autos. The Chinese government's NEV policies, coupled with tax incentives, aim to push the number of NEV cars sold each year to 20%, from currently less than 1% of all cars on the street by 2025. The meeting was convened to discuss future policy developments in the China’s NEV industry and their implications for the United States. At the meeting, Dr. An analyzed China's NEV roadmap, as well as the economic, environmental, and energy security implications of the initiative. Dr. An also discussed the impact of the China-US trade war on China's NEV policy and industrial development. The meeting was moderated by Jennifer L. Turner, Director of “China Environment Forum”. Other speakers included Scott Kennedy, Deputy Director of the Freeman Chair in China Studies, and Camron Gorguinpour, Senior Global Manager for Electric Vehicles. Scott Kennedy discussed how China’s NEV initiative would affect its goal to phase out combustion-engine vehicles by 2050. Camron Gorguinpour highlighted the global impact of China's electric vehicle boom, and how other countries could gain insights from China's green auto sector.
